Hi - reposting my experiences here in the hopes this is a software issue with the Android version of Garmin Connect Mobile. Two posts from the Vivoactive forum based on my experiences with undercalculation of calories burned relative to pretty much every other calculator I have seen. The thread, with other people's experiences, is here: https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?229035-Calorie-estimation-strangeness

Hi folks - got my VA today and had my first run after setting it up and updating to the latest firmware. I filled out my profile with my correct height, weight and age (51, 181lbs and 5'9") and did a 12k+ run seen here http://connect.garmin.com/activity/733999308. I ran with the heart rate strap as well and it correctly got my average heart rate over the course of the run.
Strangely, Garmin Connect calculated that run as only burning 492 calories where the same run in Runkeeper or on my treadmill would have it double that. The only thing that got inputted incorrectly in my profile prior to the run was my gender - it incorrectly had me defaulted to woman. Has anyone seen this major variance in calorie estimation? Thanks!!!

Grrr! Just did a 10.2k run at a slightly slower pace than yesterday (12k yesterday) and Garmin Connect is reporting 567 calories burned. This is still low compared to other calculators but Higher than yesterday. Stupid. This little niggly thing is going to bug me until I find a fix.
EDIT: Well interesting finding - I just used the calorie calculator at http://www.shapesense.com/fitness-ex...alculator.aspx and based on my VO2 max of 4.2 ml/kg/min, my average heart rate of 143 bpm, my weight, age, height and duration of exercise, it estimated 586 calories. Perhaps Garmin Connect is more accurate than I thought?-----------
Is this a known bug? Any suggestions? Thanks!
