Garmin Connect Incorrectly Showing Vivosmart Sleep Times

I seem to have a problem with the Garmin Connect Android App displaying my sleep times uploaded from my Vivosmart.

You can see from the following image that my times, when showing on the editing screen, look just fine. Those are the times I went to sleep:

Now, when the times are shown on the graph, they are all out:

Up until today they were only an hour out, now they're two hours. What's going on?

Vivosmart is on the latest firmware, it was connected, checked and charged this weekend. Phone is an Xperia Z3 and is also on the latest firmware with the Garmin Connect App updated to the latest version.

Any ideas? Seems to be an odd bug.

  • There's no question, you have a timezone issue. Check the timezone in Connect on the web. It's the head and shoulders icon on the left - Display preferences. Also on your PC and your phone.

Some timezones have not switched to DST while others have so a 1 hour difference can become a 2 hour difference.
  • Thanks Phil.

Just checked. Mobile is on auto detect from carrier, which is UK's EE and is showing "GMT+1 British Summer Time", so that's fine. It happily changed over to the correct time overnight.

Checking Connect online my profile is set to GMT. Now I could set it to GMT+1 for Central Europe or Western Africa time, but that doesn't seem correct to me, either that I have to change it manually or that there's not a BST option.

Finally, PC is and always has been set correctly. Although that doesn't matter as I don't sync through the PC, just the mobile.

Should I tell Connect I'm in Central Europe or West Africa?
  • One thing is for sure. Everything should really be the same. One adjustment that helped others with similar issues is to use the same internet time server to synchronize your PC and devices. One person couldn't sync because their devices were off by 1 second.
  • Thanks Phil.

The screenshots are directly from the mobile and the data is recorded on the Vivosmart, so I'm not sure how I could make those two devices use the same time server.
  • It's easiest to change it on the PC. I'll try to find the thread where this is mentioned and pass it along.

It may be coincidence but I'm also using a Z3 and I'm also having the same problem with sleep times being out by an hour.

In addition to that since I've had the time problem I've had the device switch itself off randomly during the night and then when switched back on display a full battery even though I went to bed with a half charged device. That has only happened once so hoping it was just a one off however last night it came out of sleep mode by itself.

Have you had any success switching the online time?
  • I have done absolutely nothing to either device other than check my settings online with Garmin Connect. I didn't change the settings, nor did I change any time settings anywhere else. I can't stress enough that I've done nothing.

Suddenly, it's working. The times are not an hour out any longer. All I can think of is that perhaps it's down to a restart of the Z3. YorkshireSteel, give that a go and see what happens. That's the only advice I have.

Thanks Richard! I restarted my Z3 and now the problem has resolved itself... must always try switching off then back on again before posting!

Having this issue with a SAMSUNG GALAXY S4

Hi all, I've recently acquired a Samsung Galaxy S4, and of course put the Garmin app on. Previously I haven't had a smart phone so this is my first experience with the app. All my settings in Garmin Connect online (on the PC) and on my phone itself are set for the correct time zone (GMT+9.5), however when my sleep syncs with the phone, it is showing the times as GMT - extremely inaccurate. I can't see anywhere in the phone app to alter time zones, so I'm not really sure what to do. Does anyone have any suggestions other than turning off and on as suggested above because that didn't help? Any assistance appreciated! :)

PS I have a Vivosmart too obviously otherwise wouldn't be posting here... ;)

Ok so just to update, a few days later my vivosmart started showing incorrect time on the wrist band, and I re-set the time on the band manually. After doing this it seems to show sleep times correctly. This also co-incided with the last software update, so I'm not sure if that is just co-incidence or related. Anyway, it's now working, so all good. :)
