Fenix 2 unable to pair with Motorola Moto X (2014) - Incorrect Pin or Passkey

Hi,

I have a Fenix 2 and a Motorola Moto X running Android Lollipop (5.0). The first time I tried to connect when I was running KitKat (4.4.4) I had a few issues but managed to get it to sync. After updating to Lollipop I have had no joy whatsoever.

There are a number of problems I have had:

1. I try to pair from the Bluetooth settings of Lollipop with the fenix 2 and the error I get here is "Couldn't pair with fenix 2 - xxxxx Incorrect Pin or Passkey". The problem with this is that there is no sign of a passkey on the fenix 2 (which still says "Ready. Pair from bluetooth settings on device"). 99% of the time I also have no dialog box on my phone asking for a passkey, on the rare occasion I manage to get to that I have nothing to type in. In order to get the dialog box to pop up in the notifications bar I have to be extremely quick in pairing with the fenix 2 sometimes even try to pair with it somehow on my phone before I start the process on the fenix 2.

2. Secondly before I got frustrated and reset all user settings on the fenix 2 and my phone I used to get an error where it would say sync in progress for a second and then default to sync complete with no data having been uploaded. This only happened a few times.

Things I have tried:

1. Resetting all settings on both devices
2. Clearing bluetooth data/cache from phone
3. Forgetting fenix 2 as paired from phone and attempting to re-pair
4. Booting into safe mode on phone and pairing
5. Pairing from within the GC app

It is worth noting I feel I have exhausted all possible forums / suggestions and have been trying this for over 2 months now.

As a side note I used to have an iPhone 4s which paired beautifully with the fenix 2 (although it took forever, it still worked). I am willing to try almost anything if anyone has any suggestions or has had this problem before.

Regards,
Phil
  • If it's like other Garmin BLE devices, you do the pairing from within the GC App, and not in the phone settings. BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) is different than the Bluetooth used for speakers and headphones.

Yeah I've tried that as well and I just get a pairing error. Constantly tries to connect and after certain time intervals I get a red frowny face saying couldn't connect. Thanks though.

I can pair and connect my Fenix 2 with Android Lollipop (Moto G). But, as you said, it doesn't upload any activites, the syncronization always fails.

Same issues here. Just Updated my phone htc m8 to android 5.0. Had lots of issues just getting it connected but even when it finally connected for setup the sync would never work.
