Since 2.7.5 my battery is being eaten up by GCM. I've noticed my phone will be warm when I pick it up (this rarely happened before). On average CPU time is around 30% of total time on battery. Right now my phone has been on for 5h41m and GCM is responsible for 18% of the usage (next biggest user, the screen, is at 5%) and has a total CPU time of 1h33m27s (only 1m7s in foreground). Is anyone else having this problem? Is there a fix for this?
Same problem. Currently GCM shows 45% of the battery. Any solution?
I am having the same issue on my HTC M8. I can't even get through the day on a charge now. Garmin says it is not the app. I disagree. They need to fix this ASAP.
Same problem with Nexus5 and 920xt. I am not sure if it has anything to do with the flaky Bluetooth. I tried reinstalling Connect but that didn't help. My battery problems did not start until the GC update. Battery is fine when GC is not installed. Confirmed 3 times.

Agreed. I finally uninstalled because I couldn't handle it anymore. Problem fixed instantly. Just reinstalled 2.8 to see if the problem is fixed.
Same experience with 2.8, battery drain has definitely got considerably worse.
This is on a Motorola Moto G (2013 4G) with 4.4.4. Somewhere in the last week or so a GCM upgrade seems to be related. It's not my primary handset, in plane mode and very little else installed or used on it. Just, in theory, Bluetooth sync to my 920XT, when it works.
This weekend I flashed a factory image to my Nexus 5 because I was worried that I had a bad update with the 5.0 and 5.0.1 OTA updates I had heard of some people getting some weird stuff and my phone seemed to be experiencing other little problems. Since the factory reset (I reinstalled GCM this morning) I haven't noticed the problem and it was very apparent before so I'm going to say, at risk of making a premature judgement, that it was an Android issue. I'll keep my eye on it for a few days and post back here once I'm more confident.
Yep I was too enthusiastic, this problem is definitely NOT resolved. Now I have it running on a factory Android image and still getting the same drain problems as before. What can we do to get this fixed? Is it a problem with all Nexus 5's?
I'm guessing that in an attempt to fix Bluetooth connection issues the newer versions of GCM are more aggressively using the Bluetooth radio stack and hence draining more power. Let's hope that once the connection issues are fixed the next focus is to rebalance the power drain!
