When does a Livetracking session start; when i select it in the app or when I start the run on my device (in this case my 620). If I select it 5 minutes before the race for example, will it actually start when I start the run on the 620 or do I need to start in the app just seconds before I start the run?
With the current Connect Mobile software (2.7.1), a LiveTrack session may be started before a Garmin device is connected to the app and before the start of a fitness activity. Once a Garmin device is connected to the app (via bluetooth), the device will start sending latitude and longitude. At this point, invitees may then start viewing/tracking your location only. Once an activity is "started" on the Garmin device, even more data is sent to the app. This is when invitees start seeing more interesting data (based on the activity type). I don't recall how early you can create a session on the phone, but I know cyclists will start the session perhaps an hour before the start of a race. Then, once the race is about to begin, all the rider must do is press start on the Garmin device.
The reason I prefaced the above with "current software 2.7.1" is because there's a possibility this may change in a future release.
Thank you both very much. I don't need to start it that early. I just want to be trying to start both at the same time. I have a race this Thursday. I'll let you know how it goes!
