Smart notification don't work - Galaxy S4 and FR220

Need help - can't make smart notifications work in any way - phone is Galaxy S4 Active running 4.4.2 (AT&T), watch is Forerunner 220.

Watch does show "Phone low battery" warnings and uploads workouts to Garmin Connect with no issues. Have latest version of the Connect app, in the app itself have Smart Notifications toggled on on anything that makes sense - Calls, text messages, e-mails.

Watch never shows anything - is there anything in the watch settings itself I need to turn on (didn't find anything) ? (watch is running latest firmware as well, keep it up to date through Web Updater)

Also settings page of Connect App shows : Smart Notifications - Enabled, 0 subscriber(s) - what does that "0 subscriber(s)" really mean ? Tried to test with app being on, didn't work either...

Help...
  • I think Smart Notifications only work with devices that have that functionality programmed in such as the Edge 1000.

"Connected features¹: incoming call and text alerts²..."
The footnote says only with iPhone 4 or later. So it must be a pretty small group of customers who actually have Smart Notifications. I wonder if a firmware update to other devices can make them capable of it?

The Forerunner 220 does not support smart notifications. The 220 sends a "low battery" proprietary message (over Garmin's proprietary bluetooth protocol) to Garmin Connect Mobile. (In other words, the low battery is not a smart notification). The first fitness watch to support smart notifications, is the Forerunner 920.
