Noted that the new update for the garmon connect app, needs rights for all kinds of private stuff like text messages, phonecalls, phonecall log's, and also the ability to access the camera, plus the gps location of where Im at. Is there any logic explanition to why garmin needs all these rights on my mobile phone? Havent installed the latest update, not because theres anything to hide, but to this is a tool for comparing and coordinating my personal training, I'm perfectly aware of where I am, how to send a text message, use the phone camera, and make phonecall... so why does garmin need all this info???? I have garmin 1000 cycling computer with gps. So regarding my trainig that will record whar ever has to be recorded, everything else cannot be any of GARMINS business.
The Garmin Connect Mobile App (GCM) interfaces with many Garmin devices, not just the EDGE 1000. For example, the Vivosmart device has a built-in feature called "find my phone". Upon pressing this option in the device, a bluetooth message is sent from the device to GCM. GCM then sends a message to Android to turn on the camera light, vibrate the phone, and play a sound. In order to turn on the camera light, the app needs uses the "camera" persmission. Don't worry, GCM isn't taking any photographs. :) This is just one example. All requested permisssions, used by the app, are for good reason. The Edge 1000, does not use the aforementioned feature.
I hope this reply eases your concerns about updating the app to the latest version. Thanks for being an EDGE customer!
