Bluetooth OR Wi-Fi dilemma

First of all, it started to happen as I bought fr220 instead of old fr910. Garmin Connect was installed long time ago. So I paired fr220 to my phone and this bug appeared.

While bluetooth is switched off on the phone, wi-fi works as usual,
as I switch bluetooth on, internet connection through wi-fi fails, i am in the network, but no connection.
as bluetooth is off, connection is back again.

my temporary workaround:
wi-fi off
LTE on (if is off)
bluetooth on
sync my fr220
bluetooth off
wi-fi on

to use bluetooth and wi-fi simultaneously I have to kill the process Connect.

I have Sony Xperia Z1 C6603 with Android 4.4.2

Did someone have similar trouble?
  • 128 views so far and no replies, so less then 1% have this problem =) that's strange, I can't find anything unusual in my setup.
I tried different wi-fi routers, different settings, no success. For me no variables, looks like Garmin Connect process kills wi-fi, when bluetooth on.
  • I used to have to have problems with wifi and BT working simultaneously and I got it solved by changing the wifi channel on the AP. Somehow the channel I used for wifi was interferring with BT communication. Worth a try.
  • Update: when connected to 5GHz Wi-Fi network (36 ch., 5180 MHz) everything works. Unfortunately I don't have 5GHz Wi-Fi at home.

Unfortunately, we can thank Sony for this bug. Three years ago, this was reported too when the Nexus 4 was released . There's an official Android bug report here -- https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=41631 << see post #99. Indeed, changing the frequency does solve the problem, but, like you pointed out, most users don't own routers that support the 5GHz band. And even the very latest Android software stack (see post #247) does not remedy the problem.
  • Hello,
Having the very same issue, once I'm adding my FR620 to the application, it instantly kill my wifi, I'm using an xperia V, first with Android 4.3 (stock firmware) and just tried Android 5.0.2 (Cyanogen).
    Problem is still there.

Also, as long as the FR620 is declared in the GCM apps, enabling BT is killing my wifi.
I will try to switch the channel but remaining in the 2.4G spectrum (asking me to move to 5G is not a serious answers ...)

    Will keep you posted
  • Couple addtl info, using a different channel for WIFI does not change the result, it keep failing ...

Doing the same on an Xperia Z1 Compact is working fine ...
    :(

Prb is likely related to Radio on Xperia V ...
  • Update: I will check more, but now I found out that wi-fi works while watch is connected to the phone.
    Test:
    1. GPRS off, Wi-fi on, BT on, Forerunner off (watch mode) - no internet
    2. Forerunner on, connects, internet works
    3. Forerunner off, internet fails again.

I checked it, right, while watches are connected, internet works. It shows, that there aren't hardware issues here. It is so annoying.
Anyway, it simplified the process a little - I can use Wi-Fi to upload activities, than shut BT or kill the process.
  • GCM v.2.9.1 and FR920xt firmware v.3.07 resolved lots of bluetooth issues, but not this one.

I have the same on a Xperia V with latest cm12....
