Forerunner 920XT issues - GCM hanging and Re-pairing required with pin

Hi guys

Hopefully support read this forum so it is a useful post and also to hear from others with similar problems

My setup
GCM 2.5.2
FR920XT (firmware 2.5)
Android 4.4.4
Sony Xperia Z1 Compact

Issue #1 sync hang

Had a lot of hanging when the forerunner is syncing.. in the image you see that the sync is hanging half way through. Once it hangs nothing to do but try and crash it (usually by turning off bluetooth on phone)
I think I have found a work around (think).. which is to leave GCM using the back buttons (repeated until it takes me back to the home screen) rather than use the home screen button.

Issue #2 re-pairing with pin
This is the real biggy
Several times a day I go out of range of the phone. When I do the connection is lost and the only way I can get it to re-establish the connection is through re-pairing using the pin.
If it was a 'click here to reconnect' button it would be fine.. but the whole thing means I need to ..
a. pull down the notifications bar from the top and click on the Yes to connect request (when the phone spots a request)
b. pull down the notification bar from the top again and this time go through the re-pairing process by entering the pin showing on the watch.

It is seriously taking away from my 920XT experience

Things to note
1. I am a long term Garmin user and have used GCM/bluetooth with my Edge 810, Vivofit and FR620 (the 620 could be fussy and not always connect, but usually worked)
2. I have tried the usual..
  • Turn on turn off Bluetooth
  • Turn on turn off phone
  • Remove device and re-pair
  • Uninstall and reinstall GCM

Would love to hear if this is a known issue that others are experiencing and if Garmin are working on some fix

To garmin.. really don't mind being a tester.. been with you guys since the FR301 :-)
  • Try the 3.07 beta firmware. Works fine with my LG Nexus 5 (Android 5.01). Bluetooth now silently repairs...
  • For me this problem solved with new 3.07b firmware. Have Xperia Z C6603 with Android 4.4.2.
The problem that stayed is: with GCM process working if I enable BT my WiFi stop working.

update: not ideal yet - had to repair it again and synchronization took a long time. but at least it works somehow. hope it'll become even better next updates.
  • I've been having all the same pairing issues as above with 920XT and Nexus 5, all I did was add my Nexus 5 WiFi hotspot to the 920XT and just sync via WiFi wherever I am and works every time.
  • I just bought this today and have had to re-pair it about 6 times so far. I am on 2.7 and 2.9.1 GCM on a OnePlus One with Cyanogenmod 11 which is based on Android 4.4.4. Are folks seeing this working in the 3.x beta versions? It is a real pain.
  • @txbobski0qm: Install 3.07beta an have fun ;-)

lol I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not. Time for more research into problems with 3.07 on the 920.

It works great with Xperia Z1, no more problems with BT connection!

    Worse with 3.20

I have a Sony Z1 Compact that was troublesome to get stable pairing with the 920XT, but after the 3.20 update doesn't work at all!!!
  • I have a Nexus 5 running 5.01 and I installed the new 3.20 update yesterday and so far it's finally working like it should! Normally mine would never ask for a pin upon pairing and just keep repairing or not connect at all. Now with the new update it asks for a pin and stays connected and reconnects automatically. Very happy so far.
  • I'm glad to see that other have the same problems as me..
Even though Garmin support seems to never heard about this issue

We have two 920XT with the same problem!

After a workout, the watch does not sync with the mobile..

I have to do following on the Mobile -> Settings - programmes - Connect - Force stop: When the clock says: "The phone disconnected" !!
Then when I restart Connect Mobile an then it sync´s.
This is quite annoying - Why do I have to stop the app and restart for it to sync ??
    versions:
    920XT: Prog ver 3.20, GPS 2.80
Mobile (Tried with two different - same error)
    LG G2 Android 4.4.2
Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4.2

My wife has a 920XT (Same version as mine) and Samsung S5 Android 5.0 and has exactly same error ..
