Livetrack "Upload Failed"

When I get home from a ride I press the Start/Stop button on my Edge 810 and then press Save, about 50% of the time I get the "Upload Failed" message (I then have to upload via USB).
I've always put this down to the poor mobile phone signal here, I was watching the phone to day and although the phone signal was poor (1bar) the WiFi was full strength.
Does anyone know if the Livetrack tries to sync over WiFi if it's available, or if it always uses the phone signal?
  • I don't think it matters to the GC app on your phone how it is connected to the internet. I notice that my Edge 510 tells me Upload Failed occasionally, maybe 5-10% of the time. But when I actually check the GC app on my phone, it shows that the activity upload was in fact successful and it is available for review on my phone or on the GC website. I don't know what that glitch means, but I ignore it if I see the activity in GC. If it doesn't show up in GC, then I've had luck recalling the activity on the Edge and then initiating an upload. The phone has to have access to the internet via mobile network or wifi for the upload to work.

Despite the "Upload Failed" message, I also find that the ride has uploaded to the Garmin website but not as often as I'd like it to. :(
