How to use my 2 devices...

I have a FR220 that I use for running, and just replaced my Fitbit with a Vivosmart. Can anyone walk me through the correct process to avoid recording 2 duplicate activities in Connect?

1. Do I wear both devices when I run?

2. Do I just wear the FR220 and not the Vivosmart?

If option 2, will the steps carry over from the FR220 activity and be added to my daily total?

I am also wondering what is the best way to sync between My Fitness Pal, Endomondo, and Connect to avoid creating duplicate activity???

Thank you!!!

    Great question, CEHECK!

Yes, wear both devices. Do NOT start a run on the Vivosmart. Only use the FR220 timer to start and end your run. The Vivosmart will be used to count the number of steps you took. However, because the FR220 is more accurate in calculating calories (especially if you wear a heart rate monitor), the calorie calculation will be cased off the FR220, not the Vivosmart.

Thank you. This seems to work well.
  • If you wear your Vivosmart and the FR simultaneously and sync both to Garmin Connect, you are going to overestimate your calories burn that day, even if you don't start an exercise on Vivosmart. Garmin Connect is going to draw the calories burned from the exercise your FR created in Connect and then add the calories burned due to taking the very same steps. For example, if you ran 15K, which your FR will register as 1000 calories, that 15K run involved taking 16,000 steps and the calories from doing that (1,400) will be added to the 1000 from FR. My conclusion is that if you have a FR, don't wear the Vivosmart for running, in either case, it overestimates the calorie burn by close to 40%.
  • I know this is an old thread, but I needed to correct the post directly above mine. Wear both devices! Garmin Connect will still keep track of all of your steps, but the calories for your Forerunner activities will override the step calories. If you go to the full calories page and click the activites page, Daily Steps has a help button that explains this. Only steps that weren't also timed activities are included in step calories.
