Notifications for Fenix 2 NOT working

Former Member

Seems like everything else is working, post update, besides the phone notifications that are supposed to be part of the "Bluetooth Connected Features." Is anybody else having this problem? And are the people at Garmin aware of this issue? Working on it?
  • Notifications weren't one of the things meant to have been working with the update. Only app connectivity.

Garmin Fenix 2 - Unable to get notification

    Hi,

I just bought my Fenix 2 watch 2 days ago. i able to pair my watch and my phone. However, when i tested to sent massages to my phone, i did not get any notification on my watch. I were wondering if Fenix 2 do not support Samsung Note 2 (Android - 4.4.2, baseband Version - N7100DXUFND2, Kernel Version - 3.0.31-1280411) or do i have to do some setting before i can get it work?

    Please help.

    Cheers

After skimming through the fenix 2 manual, I can see why this question pops up as often as it does. The smart notifications features is currently only compatible with iOS devices with Bluetooth 4.0 wireless technology and iOS 7 or later. Because of how Android currently works, it requires an app running in the background to send notifications over bluetooth. Until GCM or another app for Android does this and the fenix is updated so it can understand what the app sends it, smart notifications over bluetooth from an Android phone won't work.

If you check out the software release notes for fenix 2:
    (FENIX 2)
Changes made from version 3.20 to 3.30:

Added support for Android version of Garmin Connect Mobile app (automatic uploads, LiveTrack, faster GPS from downloaded satellite data file, ability to download Courses and Workouts)

Note that everything is explicitly listed out, and it does not mention smart notifications. Compare this to the original fenix's software release notes, and you'll see something similar. I have also copied over part of the release notes for when GCM and smart notifications were added for iOS devices:

    (FENIX / D2 / TACTIX)
Changes made from version 4.40 to 4.50:

Added support for Android version of Garmin Connect Mobile app (automatic uploads, LiveTrack, faster GPS from downloaded satellite data file, ability to download Courses and Workouts)

Changes made from version 4.00 to 4.40:

Added support for Smart Notifications. Note: the Apple Notification Center Service (ANCS) feature requires an Apple iPhone equipped with Bluetooth 4.0 wireless technology and iOS 7 or later. Enable in Setup > Bluetooth
Added support for Garmin Connect Mobile app (iOS only, automatic uploads, LiveTrack, faster GPS from downloaded satellite data file, ability to download Courses and Workouts)
