Forerunner 620 Bluetooth support ETA

I heard somewhere that it would be early in 2014, but is there a firmer ETA on when BT support will be added for BLE Android devices like the Nexus 5?

An update for the Garmin Connect app for Android will be released in the first quarter of 2014, likely mid-February. Unfortunately, that is as close an estimate as we can provide at this time.

Keep in mind that your Android device will need to be running Android v4.3 (or higher), and must have hardware support for Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), also known as Bluetooth Smart, in order to work with the update.

    That's really great news!!

If the Mid February release won't support Bluetooth Notifications for Tactix, will it be availible in the next version?

I have the HTC One with 4.3 so it's BLE certified

    Regards,
    Mikael
  • Great thanks. Both my android devices are running Kitkat 4.4 and have BLE support (Galaxy S4 and Nexus 5)

wow this is really great news!!

    but:

If the Mid February release won't support Bluetooth Notifications for Tactix, will it be availible in the next version?

this is the question: BLE notification or no BLE notification

As we understand it, yes, notifications (both BLE and standard Bluetooth) for all supported devices will be added with the next update.
  • Does anyone have a suggestion for a cheap device that with the required iOS/Android version and contains Bluetooth Low Energy? I have been looking at iPod touches, but they're all upwards of $200. I can't tell if these cheap sub-$100 Android tablets that I see everywhere include the ability to upgrade to Android 4.3 *OR* if they have BLE either. Would appreciate a suggestion, thanks!

Looking fwd for ANT+ support for Galaxy S4 and FR 910XT in order to be able import training and health data (from Tanita)

I believe you may have misunderstood me.

The GCM update will add support for BLE (Bluetooth Low-Energy or Bluetooth Smart) on compatible Android devices, but will not add support for ANT+ directly.

If your connected Garmin device supports ANT+ (i.e. Edge, Fenix), then the data from any compatible ANT+ accessories you have connected to it will be included when uploading activities, etc. to the app. But, the ANT+ accessories themselves will not connect directly to the Android device.

I should also point out that the Forerunner 910XT is not compatible with the Connect Mobile app, due it's lack of Bluetooth or BLE support.

Why in this day and age wouldn't garmin support android. False advertising.

Ok, but are you planning to include it? since all the new Sansung Galaxy have ANT+ protocol?

There are no plans to add direct ANT+ connections to the Garmin Connect Mobile app. The Garmin Connect Mobile app uses Bluetooth/BLE (update pending) to connect with compatible Garmin devices. Because the Forerunner 910XT does not support Bluetooth, it is not and will not be compatible with the Garmin Connect Mobile app.
