Forerunner 170 - Edge 840 - Connect Android - not working well together

I'm running into some syncing issues that are preventing my devices from working together. I have a Pixel 10 phone which is where I typically access Garmin Connect.

I wear a Forerunner 170 every day and night for Garmin Coach workouts, tracking my bike commute and general activity and sleep tracking. This seems to capture all my metrics, as intended.

I also use an Edge 840 on my bike for long rides on weekends. The FR170 broadcast my HR on these rides.

I am running into problems with Garmin Coach which I am using for bodyweight plans. At first, my Edge did not display the Coach workouts. I disconnected the Edge from Connect and put it back together. This did not help at first but, a few days later, with no further intervention, the Coach workouts began to appear on my Edge. Problem is I can't start them from the Edge. For example, a Cardio Capacity workout will appear on my Edge. I can see that cycling is a qualifying activity for this workout and I would prefer to cycle rather than run. However, clicking on the workout on the Edge does not do anything. I can see a brief flash when I click it but that's it. I end up starting an activity on the Edge and also starting the workout on my FR170. This allows me to follow the HR targets on my FR170, which is not ideal, and monitoring my HR on the Edge. After my ride, I delete the FR170 workout so I'm not counting double the KMs.

I would love to just use the Edge for workouts that can be completed on my bike and use the FR170 for all other workouts. There has to be a better way!
