Android Health Connect - missing Steps intermittently during sync (no reconciliation?)

Summary

Within Android Health Connect, I've been routinely exporting Steps data from my Garmin Connect, which is synced to my Venu 3 watch. Android Health Connect has an option to export the entire dataset (a sqlite .db file) each day, pushing it to my Google Drive. Throughout August 2026, I've been comparing Step reports against my Garmin Connect app. Note the export contains step data from both the Garmin Connect app and my phone's native pedometer, however I'm excluding pixel phone Steps from analysis.

I'm noticing there are certain days where Garmin Connect's one-way write is silently dropping blocks of hourly step data. This results in inaccurate step counts between my Garmin Connect app and the Android Health Connect platform.

In the month of August, there is 100% accuracy on 21 out of the 23 days so far. Inside Android Health Connect's database, 2 of the days are reporting fewer steps by 10-20%. For both days, it's related to a missing block of hourly step data.

Questions

  1. Is the Garmin Health Connect write triggered only by a watch sync event, with no later reconciliation? That would explain why data arriving after the last push of the day never gets written.
  2. Is there any supported way to force Garmin Connect to re-push a date range to Android Health Connect?
  3. Is this a known issue, and is a reconciliation pass on the roadmap?

I'm happy to provide the extracted per-record data for the affected dates if that would help, including timestamps, counts and record UUIDs. I have tried forcing a sync with watch Garmin Connect, and toggling the Steps data permission off and on in Health Connect.

Environment

  • Phone: Google Pixel 9 Pro, Android17
  • Watch:Venu 3
  • Garmin Connect Android version: 5.27.3
  • Health Connect version: 2026.07.09.00
  • Timezone: America/New_York (UTC-4)
  • Garmin has Health Connect write permission for Steps, granted and active throughout.
  • This is not something that we have seen reported by other users.

You may want to make sure that your background app refresh is turned on for the Garmin Connect app, and the steps to enable permissions to share with Health Connect here: Sharing Your Garmin Connect Data With Health Connect

  • I noticed the same. Yesterday is missing about 1300 steps. Today is completely synced.

For me, health connect is an integration layer to an app providing team step challenges.

As OP also asked: is there a way to force a sync manually?

  • There is not from our end. If the data is incorrect in the Android Health app you will need to reach out to their support for further assistance.

  • That's not really helpful. To me it seems, I could be wrong, like the Garmin app fails to send some data to Google health for whatever reason. That can't be fixed on the receiving end, right? Unless google is "pulling" the data, but as far as I understand that is not the case.

  • I noticed this problem for my phone too. Instinct 2 with an Oppo Reno 14. For me I noticed that if I sync my watch to Garmin Connect past midnight, the steps from the previous day will update in Garmin Connect but do not get reflected in Health Connect

  • This is a follow-up from the original author of this thread, using the same environment detailed on 8/25/26. An integrity and reliability issue persists. Over the past 116 days, 11 times Garmin Connect under-wrote steps in Android Health Connect (9.4%). I'm using the Garmin Personal API to pull the data, reviewing it in the app occasionally when it doesn't match, and exporting data from Android Health too.

For example, yesterday 11/2/26 my Android Health Connect stopped seeing any rows from Garmin Connect at 4:10pm, and then started writing rows for 11/3 the next morning for once I got out of bed. On 11/2/26, Android Health Connect continued to receive rows from the Pixel 9's phone pedometer, but nothing from Garmin Connect after 4:10pm.

The Garmin team mentioned it's an Android Health Connect issue, but if it's temporary in nature due to hiccups the integration will always be unreliable. @Garmin is there any chance you could reconcile periodically, even if it's something short such as a 24-48 hour lookback?

I would pay money to have someone at Garmin help me understand this. I'm a software developer and would be happy to enable a debugger on my account/phone, or otherwise authorize more telemetry. I could also meet if that helps, and supply a Calendly URL to Garmin Support for a quick 15m overview.

    Please help!
