Recovery heart rate gone from Garmin Connect

For some time now I don't see my recovery heart rate in android app and web as well.

It used to be that when I stopped an activity and measured "Recovery HR" on my watch I could later see the result in hear rate section of the Connect up.

This data no longer shows.

  • I just tested this on my watch (Epix Gen 2) and Recovery HR still shows up in Connect mobile (v5.26) and web.

I'm sure you know because it seems you've had success in the past, but after stopping the activity, make sure you actually start the Recovery HR test, let the full 2‑minute countdown finish, go back, and then save the activity. Are you using the watch’s optical HR or an external chest strap? Some models won’t log Recovery HR when an external HRM is used.

  • I'm using optical sensor on Instinct 2. Always have.

I stop the activity, measure "Recovery HR" like you said. I resume activity afterwards. This is how I've always done it and I used to see Recovery HR Connect app.

I've just checked some old activity (Jun 2025) and I still see Recovery HR in that activity. I checked on my mobile app (android, v5.26). I haven't seen Recovery HR in the app in a month at least.

  • I resume activity afterwards

Do you mean selecting resume after finishing the 2-minute countdown? I just tested this, and the recovery HR doesn’t appear in Connect. It only saves the recovery HR if I choose save.

  • Yes, I always resume activity afterwards. It makes no sense to me to measure Recovery HR after a run or a bike ride because at that point I'm after a cool down or gentle ride home so my heart rate is low.

I'm certain Recovery HR used to be recorded even when I used "Resume activity".

  • I checked today and saved the activity after measuring Recovery HR and it shows in the app.

I'd prefer how it used to work. It's pointless after a cooldown

  • And I think that's where you/ve gone wrong, the Recovery should be immediatly after the "effort" not the cooldown, so maybe it's been changed. But I can see where I might want to resume after a recovery - hmmmmm.

Although I can't ever remember seeing the recovery stats if I resumed a ride. Interesting, maybe it was changed sometime in the past?

  • And I think that's where you/ve gone wrong, the Recovery should be immediatly after the "effort" not the cooldown

That's exactly what  complained about - when you measure the Recovery HR after the effort, and then continue with the cool down, you do not get the Recovery HR in the stats, despite that it is saved in the activity FIT file. The FIT file contains even multiple records, if you measure the Recovery HR after several high effort intervals, but Connect does not show any of them, unless it was measured after the end of the activity.

So currently the only possibility is immediately saving the activity after the effort, and recording the cooldown separately.

  • My bad, I  misread that. But I was not aware all of that WAS in the FIT file. .  Now I  got to go look at some rides from last Summer to see what's what.

  • Garmin’s logic is:

If you Save immediately after the 2‑minute recovery HR countdown

    • Writes the Recovery HR result
    • FIT file contains the official event
    • Connect displays it

If you Resume after the recovery HR countdown

    • Garmin discards the Recovery HR result
    • FIT file contains only the marker
    • Connect shows nothing

I used Fit File Repair Tool and Fit File Viewer to confirm.

  • I wonder why they even bother to put a "marker" in the FIT file, and why not include the data that was gathered?

Must be another feature from Garmin that is beyond mere mortal comprehension.
