Delay an upload from Garmin Connect to Strava

Is there a way to delay an activity from automatically uploading from Garmin Connect to Strava? It would be nice if there was an option to delay this process by some specified time duration so that I can edit the data within Garmin Connect before it is pushed to Strava. This would be useful for strength training activities (updating exercises and sets/rep) and also stationary bike or treadmill workouts where I add the mileage & other data within the Garmin Connect app after completing the workout.

The workout data within Strava is inaccurate because it is pushed to Strava right after stopping it on my watch before I can edit it within Garmin Connect. I do not want to disconnect Strava & Garmin Connect and manually upload the .fit file. My running data doesn't need post-processing within Garmin connect but other types of workouts need post-processing so a delay to the automatic upload would be nice.

If this already exists, that would be great. I am currently using a Forerunner 970 for all activity tracking.

It would not help you, since Strava always gets the original FIT file as received from the watch. Edits are not stored in the file. Currently, the only way to achieve what you ask, is the way you do not want to take - disconnecting Connect x Strava, editing the FIT files with an external tool, and uploading the modified file to Strava.

Of course, you can suggest a change to Garmin at their Share Ideas page, but since the change would require a major redesign of the way it currently works, I am afraid it is not going to happen easily or quickly.

There are some 3rd party apps, though, replacing the Connect-Strava link with their own, and which can do some modifications in the FIT files before forwarding them to Strava. ActivityFix is one of them, but I am not familiar with it, so cannot tell you whether it could do the edits you want. There may be other similar apps available.

  • Thanks for the reply  . So it sounds like within the Garmin Connect app, all edits sit on top of the original .FIT file but if I export an activity from Garmin Connect the .FIT file would be re-generated and contain the edits that were made within the Garmin Connect app? Not sure if my understanding is correct. At the very least it sounds like I will need to go the manual route if I want to get the activities corrected on Strava.

Thanks also for the heads up about the other apps. I will do some more research and might share the post on the ideas page, although it sounds like it may not be worth the effort if it would require a major redesign.

Unfortunately, you can only export the original file in Garmin Connect. It does not contain the edits. As I wrote, you'd have to use an external tool.
