Auto lifestyle logging mapping activities strangely

It feels like auto lifestyle logging is tagging strangely. I think it associated breath work with "light exercise" and my low aerobic base run as "vigorous." Breathing doesnt seem like it should get picked up at all and the run was probably closer to light or moderate?

  • I guess it depends purely on the Intensity Minutes gained during given activity: none or few IM » "Light Exercise", some vigorous IM » "Vigorous Exercise", otherwise "Moderate Exercise". If you do not want to log breathing and other low-effort activities, then you have the following options:

    • Disable the Light Exercise tracking
    • Do not save the activity after stopping it, discard it
    • Do not use the watch at all for breathing
    • Review your IM setting, enable HR Zones, and use higher HR Zones. By default, the Resting HR is used for defining the threshold, so if yours is low, even light activities may trigger IM
  • Maybe I'll turn off light exercise tracking for now. Long term, it still feels like a bug that certain activities aren't excluded as exercises.

Maybe it was number of minutes that triggered the "intense" clarification. My zones are based off lactate threshold % and it was just a 50 minute zone 2 run

  • My zones are based off lactate threshold % and it was just a 50 minute zone 2 run

Zones do not matter by default for Intensity Minutes. As written, by default, IM are based on the 7 days average Resting Heart Rate, and the HR Zones settings have no impact on them.

Long term, it still feels like a bug that certain activities aren't excluded as exercises.

I'd tell it is a subjective opinion. Others may disagree. What is more important though, is whether you have the choice, and I think the available options are sufficient, if you need this finer control.

  • It was only 4 intensity minutes.

  • It was only 4 intensity minutes.

Yes, odd indeed. In that case IM are likely not the main factor for the exercise category. Unfortunately it is not documented, and I do not really use Lifestyle Logging, so have no experimental evidence that could reveal the pattern used for the categories. Perhaps you'll be able to find it out after a few days of observation, and comparing diverse factors like the activity type, Calories, duration, Training Load, IM, etc and their relation to the exercise level.
