I have a Garmin Fenix 6 Sapphire that I have used for many years. During that time, I have also used Garmin Pay successfully with several of my cards. I’m in Sweden where many card providers are supported.
One day Garmin Pay stopped working in the watch. Whenever I selected the wallet, the watch froze for a few seconds and then nothing happened. The wallet didn’t open.
I tried restating the watch and the phone, but it didn’t help helped.
I decided to try and remove all the cards in the Garmin Connect App on my Samsung phone and set up the wallet again. Now I’m not sure about every turn I took but I finally ended up with no cards in the Garmin Connect Wallet and not able to set up the Wallet again. When I try to set up the Wallet I get a message saying something like “No cards supported in my region”. This is obviously b_llshit since I have used it before with several of my cards.
I think I tried almost everything possible. I have reinstalled the Garmin Connect App. I have tried with a different phone. I have reset the watch (and applied the latest backup).
I have contacted Garmin Support who asked me to try everything again and to provide a bunch of different logs from the phone and the watch.
Garmin Support finally decided that the cause of the problem is a hardware error on the watch and because the watch is of an old model they cannot fix it. Instead, they offer to replace the watch with a Garmin Fenix 8 for a small fee. The small fee being roughly the equivalent of $1000. I find this somewhat costly and politely declined.
I do have a hard time letting this go though. I mean anything is probably possible and I’m not sure how the software in this whole ecosystem works, but I just find it somewhat unlikely that a hardware error in the watch would cause the Garmin Connect App to say that there are no cards supported in my region. I don’t really see the connection here.
I have seen some old threads about similar problems, but it seems like it has mostly been related to software issues in specific version.
Any thoughts or ideas?
