Glitch in Year in Review - Garmin Connect Rundown, inaccurate map

I've noticed that as Year in Review - Garmin Connect Rundown has been recalculated this morning to include yesterday's activities, the longest activity has correctly been updated (88.2 km Milan - San Remo ride in Tacx Training app), however an old map is still being displayed to illustrate this activity (map from the previous longest ride - Amstell Hills Tour). So the map needs to get updated as well.

(clearly, a map from Holland, not from Italy's mediterranean coast)

  • Why is this paywalled ?

I just went from fitbit to garmin because they paywall too much stuff.

Now I'm wondering if that was the right decision after all...

Personally, I don't find the offer appealing. I've just used the 30-days trial period on the Yearly Overview, which got me interested. However, I also think that after paying about €1000 for a smartwatch, having to pay for such feature seems ridiculous.

  • Exactly.

I paid for the watch, i don't expect to paid an additional subscription to able to use it. And features I actually use being paywalled mean I'll just buy something else, not get the subscription, so they can't win there.

  • Well, all the features in Connect+ (the optional subscription), are just non-necessary stuff - nothing that would prevent you from using the watch fully. Different thing with the new Fenix 8 Pro, where you have to pay additional subscription for the communication services (mobile+satellite). But if you want that watch, you decide you want to pay for these services as well.

But it's definitely up to you what you want to pay for. If people massively reject paying the ever increasing watch prices and subscriptions, Garmin will have to reconsider their approach. So far, they're having record revenues so the strategy seems to serve them well.

  • That least for these kind of services ( that cost money to run) it's somewhat justified.

Not much complaining about connect+ because the features in there are dispensable. But it also mean there is very few reasons for users to subscribe.
