My mountain climbs no longer count high aerobic segments

I am often doing activities like mountain climbs and mountain bike rides where I have intense aerobic activity (zone 3+) on the way up and then zone 1-2 on the way down. Garmin used to count some of those activities towards my "high aerobic" #s in training status.  Now, I have 0s, even though I had two activities with plenty of time in zone 3+. How can I get connect to count my time in those zones towards my "high aerobic" #s like it used to?

  • HR Zones are unimportant, and not used for calculating anything. What counts is the Max HR, and the LTHR, so check those if they are still reasonable, or have changed due to the auto-dtection.

  • What I'm saying is that for training status, I now have "high aerobic shortage" even though I spent 4 hours in zone 3-5 last week.  It used to count my time there, but no longer.  How can I fix it?

  • As I wrote HR Zones are unimportant. The algorithm does not use them at all. It uses the Max HR and LTHR values, so if those values changed, and your HR Zones did not adjust, you cannot know how much high aeroby you did, regardless how much time you've spent in zone 4 or 5. Besides that, the high aeroby detection depends also on other factors - have a look at the example shown in the article What Is the Training Effect Feature on My Garmin Device? | Garmin Customer Support, to see which kind of workout triggers the high aeroby effect.

  • This is confusing for me. Help me understand. Also, I can't even find my max HR and don't even know what LTHR means.  All I know is these types of activities used to count towards "high aerobic" and now I have 0 for High Aerobic, which is not right.

  • This is confusing for me.

    What exactly?

I can't even find my max HR and don't even know what LTHR

Max HR is in the same menu as HR Zones (though it may slightly depend form watch or edge model to model). And LTHR (Lactate Threshold Heart Rate) is there too. You can also see your LTHR at https://connect.garmin.com/modern/report/-39/running/last_year

All I know is these types of activities used to count towards "high aerobic" and now I have 0 for High Aerobic, which is not right.

Something must have changed. The Max HR, and LTHR are the first suspects. Or the curves of your HR during the workouts. Without seeing your activities, and your fitness data, we can only make some guesses.

  • Has the problem been resolved for you, and if so, how did you fix it? Strangely enough, I had my last high aerobic activity on October 7, 2025. Since then, it has always shown zero. The only values that change are anaerobic and light aerobic, and this is the case with all tested devices, FR225 and Edge 830, with the latest firmware.
