Why doesn't the step data data get added to manual activities?

My battery can't survive multi day backpacking and all the step data is there. Manually added activities should have step data and should get to court towards badges. It's just a limitation of the watch battery that stops 'proper recording'.

If we can't get badges for manual activities because 'someone might cheat' can we at least get the data that is there to sync with the activity?

We enter the start and length (and really a start and stop time would be a nice option) so the steps know exactly timeframe to pull from

  • There is a trick you can use to make manually added activities count. Log a very short activity (like 1-2 seconds...the time doesn't matter) and then save and sync. In Garmin Connect you can then edit that activity and set date, time and distance etc.

  • I didn't think Steps were added to any activity unless you used one of the CIQ data fields.

  • Steps are added to the Walking and Hiking activities.

  • I have a Venu 2 that does not put steps in the activity UNLESS I use the Steps to Fit datafield. GPS or Indoor - no steps in activity.

So, is this something with the newer models? I seem to remember that a long time ago Garmin removed steps from the fit file because they took it away from the cycling activities and it all went away, and they never restored it to the Walk/Hike stuf

  • It could be something only for newer models. It works with my Enduro 3.

I have to agree that manual activity does not seem to be able to handle steps. Maybe we are doing it wrong. Can you really ad steps to your manual activity?

  • Maybe this has changed recently and used to before, but as of right now, no, they don't get added to any manually added steps-based activity.

  • Steps are not added to manually added activities. No data at all is added to them and you can't add steps to them.

Not sure why anyone would want that. There are no badges that got steps as the metric that require a logged activity.

The replies look a bit odd, but there are multiple questions being answered.

I must have missed to answer the previous reply so this was a reply to both posts.
