No audio prompts

If the Garmin Connect app is not running in the foreground, audio prompts during an activity are not to be heard anymore.

Only with an open Connect app, audio prompts can be heard.

That's not how it should be. Nobody has the Connect app open and activated during an activity.

  • I am using GC Android v 5.17.2 and Enduro 3 with beta 20.07 firmware.

    My phone text-to-speech is set to Google framework.

    After initiating a run workout, only low/high heart rate audio prompts work. No segment alerts.

    If I unlock the phone during the activity, I find GC app maximized with "Audio prompts in progress" message; although in the past it did not maximize by itself.

    No audio segment alerts are working whatsoever, in the past they used to work.

    After a while (can't say exactly how long), heart rate alerts stop working as well.

  • I've seen this as well, "Audio prompts in progress" notification. Even though I've disabled the notification in Garmin connect. If I don't open the Garmin app to see this, no audio prompts, annoying. Garmin seem to be silent on this issue, just leaving customers annoyed/frustrated.

  • I have been in contact with the helpdesk (second time already) regarding this issue. They seem to be working on this.

  • Version 5.11.2 (apk can be found online for free) is the last version that doe not have this issue.

  •  Three full weeks have now passed, and the audio prompts still aren't working properly. Sometimes they work, sometimes they're silent from the start, sometimes they stop mid-run. Dear Garmin software developers, when will you finally fix this problem completely?

  • Well I've just been out on a run to test version 5.18, which I downloaded yesterday. The same problem still exists, unless you open the app, no voice prompts. So much for working on the problem!!!

  • I received a further update, yesterday, to Connect. The same version 5.18. I've tested it on two runs and one walk for up to 2 hours and the voice prompts have been working for me. The 1st voice prompt on button press, 'timer started' seems to be missing, but after that everything seems to work. I'll test it over the weekend to see if it continues.

    Has anybody else tried the latest version, does it work for you?

  • First thing, in 5.18 prompts work randomly now. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. 
    Second and worse, they don't work in background now. They're forcing GC app to open interrupting other things you were doing and then it stays this way often still controlling your volume. Forcing app open IS THE FIX according to Garmin logic, not bringing back proper background playback like every other app.
    Third thing is that every one of us telling that it's even partially OK is harmful for the community because it gives Garmin arguments that they don't have to bring back proper behavior with background playback. It have been a month, after this time we have to assume they are just waiting for everyone to get used to this new prompts, either they don't now how to fix, don't want to for "reasons" or it is a deliberate en*****ification and we will see proper background playback as a feature in connect+ next year.
