No audio prompts

If the Garmin Connect app is not running in the foreground, audio prompts during an activity are not to be heard anymore.

Only with an open Connect app, audio prompts can be heard.

That's not how it should be. Nobody has the Connect app open and activated during an activity.

(Android Samsung S25 Ultra, Connect app v 5.17.1, connected to Forerunner 955, with Google TTS activated)

  • Squeaky wheel gets the grease!  This fixed it for my edge 1040.  Thanks garmin.    Now please fix the 1 min heart rate alerts on my enduro3.

Congrats to you for getting something fixed!

I actually just got an email response from Garmin about the issues with the mp3 player:

I have confirmed with the team that we may not make any changes to the FF or RW on the "my music" app functionality for the Forerunner 65 series.
We can offer to exchange your watch for 20% off of a newer Forerunner as a courtesy.

So they think I'm going to spend more money on another one of their products, which will have the same software bugs?  Get real!

Garmin doesn't seem to care one bit about the quality and usability of their products, or their customer's experience in general.

  • It now don't give interval instructions in DSW trainings.

  • lol No, that was just me testing to see if it worked. I have audio prompts set to play after each lap. You'll need to download the 5.17.2 version of the app, once you install it your prompts should work again. At least it did when I tested earlier.

  • I tied using apk mirror and ended up with a $34 charge on my debit card. I guess I will wait for the next update.

  • Ouch! I know the last time I used APK mirror there was a myriad of popups and offers. Difficult to get past all of the nonsense and download a file that wasn't a 3rd-party app purchase. APKMirror itself doesn’t charge users for downloads. It's a free repository for Android APK files. I assume you could dispute the charge through your credit card company

  • 5.17.2 The first impression was that the voice alerts for starting, stopping, and looping had returned. However, after a few attempts, the alerts were no longer present or required the app to be opened again. It is evident that there is an unfinished feature, as it has not been resolved for all Android versions. 1+13, OOS 15. 860

  • I can agree with Igor: After some time the audio prompts stop.

  • Still not solved after more than a week in the new GC 5.17.2. If the app is open and active it works correctly for some time displaying the stupid message "Audio prompt in progress". After taking a photo or some other unknown reason it stopped working. It's a shame. Is this the software "quality" of a product that costs more than 500 bucks?

  • Indeed. It didn't work for me either today.

  • I just have to throw this out there and not sure if this is the proper place.    The new connect update has indeed helped my Garmin Edge 1040 bike computer now get voice navigation through Bluetooth headphones and phone even with screen off.  So at least for me I think this is fixed.  But the new update that just came out for the Enduro 3 (Not connect,  but watch update)  did not fix the timed alerts or more specifically,  the 1 minute spoken heart rate alerts..
