No audio prompts

If the Garmin Connect app is not running in the foreground, audio prompts during an activity are not to be heard anymore.

Only with an open Connect app, audio prompts can be heard.

That's not how it should be. Nobody has the Connect app open and activated during an activity.

(Android Samsung S25 Ultra, Connect app v 5.17.1, connected to Forerunner 955, with Google TTS activated)

  • As you said, it’s frustrating.  I'm a computer engineer and had developed some mobile apps for a previous company.  We NEVER let such a bug on a value feature happened.

This is what kills me :The sheer sloppiness of it.  It's as though they do zero testing at all.  And then when something does break, there is no motivation to fix it.

I would be embarrassed to ship software with some of these bugs in it.

  • I'm pretty sure what he's alluding to is that Garmin saying this will be fixed in a future update with no timeline is unacceptable for a 1000 watch and I agree..  This is a CORE feature,  the watch has nearly been rendered useless for many of us for how we use it..   If your car's transmission went out because of a faulty circuit board and you just bought it and had no other transportation, you would be a little upset .. Kind of the same..

  • This is exactly what I'm saying!   So far, because of bugs over the last couple of weeks, I didn't do well at a 10k event because I was worried about my heart rate getting to high and burning out too quickly.  I trained for that event, being totally reliant on having my heart rate alert going through my headphones every minute.  Because this feature got bugged out a day before my event with no fix in sight it sincerely knocked me off my game..  I thought they would roll out a quick fix but they still haven't...  I learned my lesson having gone through this and that event..

Also,  I was navigating my wife I at night a few days ago, very reliant on voice navigation because I can't be looking at my screen on my edge 1040 on some of these dangerous streets... Because it failed once my phone screen went off we ended up in a bad area..  My phone got us home but I just spend $600 for a 1040 package that is supposed to make life easier.. Unnacepable...

  • Yeah, it seems that Garmin doesn't care one bit about the customer experience.

I run outside with music, except in the winter when it gets dark early. Then I switch to the treadmill with Netflix. I just went through an entire summer of outdoor running with a broken MP3 player, even though I first started reporting the bugs in April.

Why even bother being a beta tester at that point? I'm doing their work for them, for free, and still being ignored.

  • Same here, downgraded version of garmin fixed the issue.

Maybe no product managers in Garmin are using Android...

  • That's a terrible reply, my goodness. A future app update? When?? This needs to be fixed right away! I, and I'm assuming the majority of Garmin watch user, depend on the audio prompts. This isn't some silly feature people don't care about.

  • The thing is, it's of their own making! Before the 5.17 update everything worked fine. Now they have created a mass of people disillusioned with their Garmin watches/software, all because they didn't fully test the software before release, They then expect the customer too  wait for a solution to a very important feature on their watches. Not a very good look!

  • I sincerely hope a team of engineers working on one of the most popular fitness products has the wherewithal to test with Android as well..  There are just as many these days using Android and off the IPHONE hype train..  I'm actually proud to say I've never bought an Apple product,  I've always felt there was something off or evil about that company.. Just my two cents..

  • This is exactly what I said!  Garmin should be bending over backwards to fix this overnight, and if they can't,  they need new engineers..

  • Yeah, some of these bugs that affect core functionality.....I don't understand Garmin's attitude of "Yeah, we'll get around to fixing it sometime, maybe".

ESPECIALLY when it was something that was just introduced in the last software update.  Why wouldn't you go back and immediately revert that change?
