No audio prompts

If the Garmin Connect app is not running in the foreground, audio prompts during an activity are not to be heard anymore.

Only with an open Connect app, audio prompts can be heard.

That's not how it should be. Nobody has the Connect app open and activated during an activity.

(Android Samsung S25 Ultra, Connect app v 5.17.1, connected to Forerunner 955, with Google TTS activated)

  • I have the same issue, on Enduro 3 (same software family). I thought about posting here too because the Fenix 8 section is way more active.

  • Oh my God Garmin,  first the Enduro 3 not getting voice alerts on heart alerts every 1 minute an now you guys completely boinked the feature on the edge 1040 I use the most..  What is going on,  I'm supper annoyed that a product can be out so long and have such a CHRUSHING issue..    I report the same behavior.     THE only way voice navigation prompts work on my edge 1040 is with my android phone screen on the entire ride which is not possible at all..   As soon as screen goes dark,  NO MORE VOICE NAVIGATION PROMPTS.     Please correct me if I'm wrong but isn't this one the core features of the 1040???   Please Garmin you're killing me and my training and I've spent nearly 10 k on your products as of late..   I'm getting red in the face,  I better quit typing this.. Thanks..

  • I'm having the exact same issue as you and thought it was my android..  I literally spent two days deleting the connect app,   unpairing,   deleting apps on my phone,   ETC..     Glad I came to this thread and saw your post so I can see it's obviously Garmin's fault..  I was even going to get a new phone.. Yikes,   the bugs are out of control on CORE features right now on so many different  devices...  Bad few months for Garmin..

  • Same issue here. I've tried various options today, for hours. Nothing  I did solved the issue with audible prompts. I'm glad I saw this thread. I'm finished trying. Now, hopefully Garmin will fix it. 

  • I'm glad I found this thread. I spent a ridiculous amount of time trying to fix this issue, I was positive it was some weird configuration on my phone but nope, it's the app. Please fix this Garmin. Who runs with their phone screen on?? Samsung S24, Connect app v 5.17.1, Forerunner 165 (no music).

    I am sorry to hear you are having trouble with the audio prompts. There is a potential known issue, that may effect audio prompts when using an Android phone. This may effect the language, or prevent audio prompts. This will be resolved with a future Garmin Connect app update.
  • What's hilarious was I was going to go out and purchase a brand new Samsung S24 Ultra today, thinking my older Samsung A53 was causing the issues.. That is how important it is to me for this to work...      Garmin really is going downhill. This is unacceptable. These core features should be down no longer than a few hours...

  • Today I talked to Garmin support in Germany. They said that this "bug" will be fixed in one of the next updates of the Connect app.

    I am afraid I do not understand. You'd be happier if they told they won't fix it at all?

  • FR255 music also impacted by this. Audio prompts only work when Garmin connect is open in the foreground. Im not going to keep my phone unlocked in my pocket.
