HR zones for Virtual Cycling

Is there a way to set HR zones for a Virtual Ride?  I am using the HRM Pro and the HR data is coming from Rouvy. Rouvy has the correct HR zones however the info in Garmin Connect is a default that can't be changed as it is not a connected device. Unsure if it should be Rouvy sending the HR zone information or Garmin Connect having that information already setup.

Thanks,

Simon

  • Do you have a Garmin watch or Edge computer? If so, you should set the correct HR Zones on that, through Connect.

  • Hi,

I have both, however they are not used to record the virtual ride. I have tried to set it on the edge but it only allows Ride HR not a virtual ride HR. The 955 does the same when going into the activity settings.

  • Set it up identically on Edge (Ride HR), and on FR955 (the general HRZ table, as well as the Cycling table), and then make sure you sync both devices before the virtual ride, and then after it. Normally, syncing the Primary Wearable Device (FR955) should be enough, but if the Edge is set as the Primary Training Device, it might be better syncing it too (might not be necessary, but just for the case). Repeat the syncing cycle after the end of the activity again, after waiting about a minute. The activity that is synced from Rouvy to Connect, has to be uploaded from Connect to the watch, processed there, and then synced back to Garmin Connect.

Otherwise, normally the HR Zones are (resp. should be) included in the FIT file from the 3rd party. Unfortunately, some 3rd parties use a wrong format for the HR Zones table, different than the one used by Garmin. If you post a sample FIT file coming from Rouvy, I can tell you whether it is your case too. If yes, then I'd recommend contacting Rouvy, and asking them to fix their data.

  • Thanks for the info, I went back into the settings of the watch and found that the MAX HR had reset to a much larger number. Will see how that HR zone data looks after my next ride.
