To the software developers - Faulty sleep recording - has been reported many times

Hello to the development team

As many users have already reported, the sleep recording is very poor.

Basically, I can't explain why garmin, in contrast to Polar and Samsung or other manufacturers, doesn't manage to program this properly.

I have had massive problems sleeping through the night for years now.
so my sleep is characterized by many long periods of wakefulness.
sleep data is often simply deleted before a long period of wakefulness and not included in the tracking.

if i go to bed at 10 pm and then have to go to the toilet at 1:30 am and then go back to sleep, the part before the toilet is deleted and the sleep is recorded again after the toilet.
it doesn't have to be just a visit to the toilet, getting a bottle of water or any other longer sleep phase where you get up and walk a few steps causes the problem.

why is that? polar and samsung simply turn going to the toilet, or getting a bottle of water or whatever, into a long awake phase and then simply continue to record your sleep.

With Garmin, the 3.5 hours are simply deleted.
completely nonsensical, as this makes all other metrics based on sleep incorrect...

and the problem has been known for a long time, many users report it.

would you please program this correctly now, because i think with a smartwatch for 1200€, i can expect the basic functions to work properly.

  • This isn't my experience using Fenix 6 or Fenix 7. In both cases, my watch correctly identifies these interruptions and sleep hours are recorded correctly. What watch are you using, what Sleep.Hours have you set and how long are your Awake periods? Maybe I'm just not awake long enough to cross some sort of threshold.

  • good afternoon and thank you for your reply

it's nice to hear that not everyone has this problem.
but as you can read in various posts here in the forum, i'm not alone with this either.
I use Fenix 8 Amoled. Sleep time is from 10pm to 8am.
my waking phases are from 5 minutes to 15 minutes, sometimes much longer.

tonight the sleep tracking from garmin simply cut off a few hours again. another manufacturer, on the other hand, recorded sleep accurately.
    that's pretty annoying...

You can see the problem very clearly in the two pictures.
    Both readings are from tonight.
Garmin has again simply cut off the first part from 11:30pm to 1:40am...

The problem is simply that Garmin apparently stops sleep tracking if you are awake for too long and then restarts it.
In my opinion, it would be better not to stop the tracking, but simply to continue.

  • From night 8.7 to 9.7, unfortunately the same problem again.
This time Garmin deleted the recording from about 11:20pm to 2:07am.

Unfortunately, this is not an isolated case.

So again my request to the programmers, please fix this problem.

  • From night 9.7 to 10.7, the same problem again.
This time Garmin deleted the recording from about 10:40pm to 0:11am and tracked only from 0:12am to 8am...

even though you can clearly see the blue recovery bars in the body battery view from 10:40pm to 0:11am.

  • From night 10.7 to 11.7, the same problem again.

Garmin has again simply cut off the first sleep part from 11pm to 0:40am...

From night 11.7 to 12.7, the same problem again.

Garmin has again simply cut off the first sleep part from 0:20m to 1:48am...

i can always prove this with screenshots, but i don't want to clutter up the forum unnecessarily
