Health Connect in GC Android App

Google announced the Garmin will support their API to sync data with Health Connect sometime this month (June 2025)

Please discuss your cons, skepticism, and objections ... because that's what people do in public forums.

Also please discuss the pros and potential for users.

  • It is consumer friendly to all easy access to personal data.
  • Any gear I choose to generate data might be accessible to view, process, and compare
  • It looks like the support page has been added, still not seeing the option to set it up myself though.

  • google said several times its coming on an update from Garmin. you will need to long press the Garmin connect icon and go to App Info/Permissions to see if its available.  It will not show up anywhere else.

  • I'm aware as to how health connect works, I use it for other apps and services. My preferred way is through the settings app on my Pixel phone. In any case it's not showing.

However some apps also have a button or route to set up the connection within their app, often just takes you into health connect to continue there. So what you are saying isn't completely true.

  • Hmm, I don't see how you are using it. I have to set read and write on each shared data point on each app.. i don't see where there is a central management point.

  • Go into the settings app on your phone and search for "health connect" you should be able to access it there, including a central hub to see all the data that has been fed in.

  • Screenshots of apps with the ability to set up the connection in the app. I would imagine Garmin will go this route as it's easier to onboard users.

  • ok i see what you mean, App permissions takes forever to load which is why I never saw it in the past, however that is just consolidating the individual app permissions. so same settings different way to get to the same place. to me its odd the would bury health connect in privacy controls but I can see the logic..

  • I think it would be better to have an app, even if it's just a shortcut which takes you into settings. The current implementation isn't very convenient, although I guess once you have set up an integration you don't have much reason to go back into health connect settings.

  • I do see your point but I find that I end up needing to sync data in different ways from service to service(ex: Garmin to fit, or Garmin to Cronometer, Zwift to Strava etc.. I end up needing different data points from different sources to fill out the reports in the different services. At least if we get health connect I can remove Health Sync from my phone. the only thing I use that for is Garmin to Health Connect....
