Straight line in path

Hi, I'm an ultra-distance cyclist, and it's happened to me twice now: when I finish a route and record, Garmin Connect draws a straight line between two points (I'll add photos). I don't know if it's a configuration error on my Garmin Edge 1040 Solar, but I need help because I'm very unhappy about finishing the route and having the route record with this problem. Can you please advise and help me with this?

Thanks!

Daniel

  • 85 hours and almost 1500 km? First of all, congrats to the performance, but TBH I am not surprised the activity did not save correctly. I would rather save each day individually. Or minimally as a multisport activity with a separate leg for each section. If really needed, you can always merge the individual activities to a single one, with an external tool, though I see no reason why a multi-day trip should be recorded as a single activity. The device was not designed for this kind of extreme usage, and both the hardware as well as the software have some limits in the size of data, and the duration, they can handle without issues.

  • The track can't have gaps so if you pause at one location and then move to a new location and resume the tracking from that point you will get a straight line drawn between the points. Was it because of that this happened?

  • The route is 100% circular (start and finish in the same place), with no gaps and no stopping pedaling throughout the entire route.

  • Okay, thanks, I'll keep that in mind. It might be nice if Garmin offered some kind of recording option (or making backups for each day or whenever needed). I've done this myself, and many of my colleagues do it (recording the entire route), and they've all done it without any problems (with Garmin or another manufacturer). That's why I was wondering if there are any recommendations or configuration guidelines to optimize performance so that this doesn't happen to me again (satellites, maps, etc.). Thanks!
