Music Not Pausing or Ducking During Garmin Audio Prompts

Hey all, wondering if anyone else has run into this issue or has a fix.

Recently on my Samsung Galaxy S23, I’ve noticed that audio prompts (like lap alerts) from my Garmin Forerunner 255 no longer pause or duck music as they used to.
This results in the audio prompts playing whilst the music continues to play making them difficult to comprehend.
It may coincide with the Samsung One UI 7.0 update, but I'm not certain.

What I’ve tried so far:

  • Garmin watch is on current latest software version 23.20

  • Happens on different bluetooth headphones or the phone speaker

  • Phone has the latest software and security updates. Garmin Connect is current latest version (Version 5.13.1)

  • I've restarted both phone and watch

  • Cleared cache/data on Garmin Connect and reinstalled the app

  • Made sure all permissions are granted

  • Switched between Samsung and Google Text-To-Speech engines, verified that audio ducking is enabled

Other apps (like the Clock Timer) pause music correctly, and apps that use TTS (like Google Translate) also behave as expected,so this seems specific to Garmin Connect.
Would love to know if anyone else has experienced this or could recommend a solution.
Thanks

  • White check mark I was able to resolve this by installing an older version of Garmin Connect '5.11.2'.
I couldn't find an APK online for '5.12.x', so I'm unable to test where this bug was introduced.
I've also disabled auto-updates on Garmin Connect for now.

  • Hi,

I have a Fenix 8 combined with a S23 Ultra. I experience the same issue. I already have contact with the helpdesk regarding this issue. I will point them to this thread.

In the meantime I will try the proposed solution and install an older version of the Connect app.

    Kind regards,

    Jurgen

  • I found the older version and installed and tested them.

5.11.2 works fine. Version 5.12 and above have this bug.

  • I also am having the same issue but it just started when my phone Samsung Galaxy update to the One UI 7.0 late last week (week of June 16/2025). To narrow the issue down, I tested the Runzi apps Audio prompts to discover that they are functioning properly in that the music volume lowers during prompts. I also tested to see if the problem is specific to the audio playing through the headphones by playing the prompts directly through the phone itself and the same issue - music volume doesn't reduce during prompt playback

  • I received a reply from Garmin, stating they can reproduce the bug. An fix will come in a future update, not specified when.

  • I just got off a support ticket with Garmin USA and they asked me for a diagnostics report, my Forerunner serial number and access to my Connect account. I can say one thing, this is the second time I've worked with Garmin on a support ticket and I am impressed with the fact that their response is pretty much instant

  • I have the same problem and I've confirmed that it's the Garmin Connect App (5.15.2).  I'm playing music on my phone (Samsung S24 Ultra - One UI v7.0, Android v 15) through my Anker BT headphones and my Epix Pro gen 2 is connected by BT also.  When I'm exercising and playing music, the sound prompts from the Epix Pro do NOT duck/ mute the music whereas all other apps notifications do (Telegram, Signal, Fastmail, news apps, etc).  In lengthy periods between phone reboots, I have had the prompts disappear completely (that is, I can't hear them at all when they appear on the watch) and that is solved by rebooting the phone.  But the Garmin Connect app prompts STILL don't duck the music.

This is very disappointing and not what I expect from a $1000 smart watch.  It's a key feature!

  • How is this still not solved? Has anybody found a way around it?

    Any news from Garmin?

This really messes up my speed training… and it’s not too good to begin with.

  • Sadly no reply from Garmin. The new version, 5.16, still brings no solution.
5.11.2 is te latest that works as it should.
