Expert Walk Challenge, the Seconds count...

for all who participate in the Garmin Connect Expert/Pro Walking Challenge this month:

keep in mind the seconds are counting towards the Challenge goal so despite Garmin in their Challenge detail
does not mention anything of minute fractions or seconds, in reality they count seconds in the back.

For example: if you walked yesterday 20mins19seconds and walk today 25mins18seconds you did not accomplish today's
challenge for 5mins more as the fraction of minute missing one single second for it to be 'real' 5 mins apart to previous.

So, to avoid frustration and hassle in counting seconds, a simple advice would be just walk 6mins more every day and you don't run into this issue.

A more sensible SW engineer would probably have modal out the seconds fraction from the minutes before summation but who am I in asking for sense.

You are welcome to ask me how I found out all of this? :-)

Garmin Expert Walk Challenge Details

  • 5 minutes = 300 seconds. I'm failing to see the complexity here.

  • most people don't care about the seconds in the duration of their timed exercise so in the example above if you glance at your screen and see 20min and think you need to walk 25min you are simple taking it wrong, as said a simple modula of the second fraction of the time duration would solve software side simple without confusion for the user

  • 5 minutes is 5 minutes. Not 4 minutes 59 seconds like in your example. Seconds have always been important for all challenges.

I add 5 minutes and 2 seconds each day to make sure I get at least 5 minutes.

First day I did 2 seconds on the walk and run. The second day I did 5 minutes 4 seconds. Today I did 10 minutes 6 seconds. Tomorrow I'm going for 15 minutes 8 seconds.
