Are custom activity profiles and data screens stored in the Garmin Connect app or only on the watch?

Hey everyone,

I have a Garmin Instinct 2S, and I'm considering doing a factory reset to fix a navigation issue. Before I do that, I want to make sure I won’t lose my custom data screens, activity profiles, sensor pairings, alerts, etc. I know that in the Garmin Connect app, I can see and even adjust some of these settings (like data screens for cycling, for example).

So here’s my main question: If I do a factory reset on the watch but keep it paired with the same Garmin Connect account – will those settings automatically re-sync to the watch, or will they be lost?

It seems like the app reflects the current state of the watch, but does it actually store a backup that can be pushed back to the device after a reset? Would love to hear from anyone who’s tried this or knows how Garmin handles this.

Thanks in advance!

  • I've had 3 different watches and they all wipe everything back to factory. I used the phone to take pictures of all my screens, as much as I could remember, but it was stilla PITA.

  • I don't own a 2S but a 2X and during a factory rest I need to setup all screen and activity profiles inclg xustom ones new from the scratch, there is little personal data synced to Connect but the majority of setting is not, be aware.
