Move to new Phone

For my device (VivoActive 4) I have made many settings in the app. For instance, which app is allowed to send the notification to the smartwatch.

Now I want to move Garmin Connect to my new mobile. How can I keep these settings? Do I have to note which apps are allowed and manually enter these settings on the new phone, or is there some more customer friendly way to achieve this?

There was no change. The Android version of Garmin Connect still has settings for apps. It is the iOS version that does not have it, and never had (because of a different API). Though, even on an iPhone, you can disable notifications from individual apps, through the iOS settings by disabling the Notification Center option at given apps (do not worry, you will still get the notifications on the phone anyway).

  • Unfortunately my discussion "Move to new phone" where I asked this question was closed without an answer to my question.

I'd like to know if there is any possibility to take the settings (eg which apps may send smart notifications to the Vivoactive 4) when migrating Garmin Connect to a new phone.

In the meantime I did this manually, but for my wife it would come handy if the possibility exists.

  • I did not test it, but transferring Garmin Connect or even all apps data to the new phone should do the trick. If you do not know how to do it, there are plenty of tutorials online. Try googling the term "transfer app data to new android phone" or similar. One of the documents that could help, is for example this one: Copy apps & data from an Android to a new Android device - Android Help

  • No, this did not help. I did this using the cable. This was the way I switched devices this time. After a factory reset of the new device (did first tests before) I told Android to fetch data from the old device and used the USB cable. About 350 apps were transferred, more than 100 were not transferred. Garmin Connect was installed on the new device, but no data/account/setting transferred. My guess is that every app tells what to backup when adb backup is called, and Garmin probably does not tell Android that there's something to transfer.

I curse all the persons who do not allow rooting. Every OS manufacturer and hacker does have control over the phone, but not the owner/user. It would have been very convenient to be able to use Titanium Backup, but this is the first time I decided not to unlock the bootloader of my mobile (before I unlocked at least 10 of my android devices). Unfortunately. But rooting disabled OTA on Moto devices (I like to keep OTA updates), and without root several apps would not run with unlocked bootloader.

  • The watchface I'm using (Simple 2) has some settings to change the values being displayed. I remember that I used quite some time to fine-tune the settings to show the things I want in the way that I want. Changing the smartphone did reset these settings when Connect IQ connected to my Garmin smartwatch. I would have liked to keep them.
