Incorrect 5k record recorded

Hi,

New runner, new Garmin user: Forerunner 255, Samsung Android phone, using Garmin Connect.

I ran 5.03 km in 30 min 04 sec.

It has recorded my Personal Record for 5k as 30 min 04 sec.

If I look at the splits and take off the time for the final 0.03 km, my time for the 5k was in fact 29:57.

My PR has been set as the total time for the run, rather than for the 5k.  A quick search shows I am not the only one to report this.

Is there a fix for this, please?

Thanks

  • It works that way because of possible GPS errors in distance. If the total activity distance is very close to a record distance (5.03 km vs 5 km in your case), Garmin algorithms assume that the 0.03 km extra was a GPS error, and that you actually ran an "official" 5 km track. If you know that you really ran 30 meters over a measured 5 km track, you can edit the record manually.

  • Thank you.  Makes sense.  If I ever achieve a record again, I will run a bit further!
