Entering payment data for connect+ is a huge mess

When you enter payment data in garmin connect it is not just enough to have to deal with the in-app autocompletion of address, or the tiny paypal popup window, whats really annoying is the fact that you cannot use copy & paste from another app. Because when you leave the dialogue, all fields are reset.

If it is not a bug then it is a very bad design decision, and probably excused with "security reasons".

  • You think too much of Garmin if you think about these reasons. They simply don't care or can't do it right. From time to time things that worked get broken (probably because their codebase is not organized well or they don't have proper qa procedure set up, or they don't follow it. Or all the above...)

  • Why even pay for the plus subscription, people should vote with their wallet, you already payed much for the hardware, why pay again, it should be included from the beginning.

  • Correct. People stop buying connect plus. More people buy more free stuff we loose

  • Yes, but that won't be enough. We also need to stop buying Garmin devices for Garmin to really feel it

  • Thats true.

I see people try to change to another brand, but the problem is that its just a question of time before these other brands do the same thing.

  • It depends. My main reason to change will be not the paid subscription. At least not now, as I'm fine with the things I got for free until now. As long as they are kept free I'm OK. If some of this functionality (that I actually use) will become subscription only from a new device in the future... then I guess I'll decide, and then subscription will also play a part in my decision.

For now, if I'll change to other brand is because of the countless (and never fixed) bugs.

  • I get it. The problem is, i am a new user and not used to the old and golden age of legacy garmin, so i cant miss what i never had. Plus, i really lean on garmin to help me reach my goal of finally getting somewhat fitter, so far it has worked fine for me. I was never a sports guy, i dont do stuff by intuition, i need clear precise data and optionally someone or something giving me a somewhat correct Interpretation of that data. I am a middle aged dad with adhd, so i neither have the time nor financial power to go with a personal trainer.

That being said, i am totally on your side, i know how this feels and i also hate the fact that i am one of those egoistical newbies taking for granted what you veterans and this community have built over the years.

On the other hand - if (and it really is a big if) the raw data of the workouts and sensors and whatnot will always be available online, then I am 100% sure a white knight in shining armor will swoop in and come up with an open source tool that downloads your data and can give you those features (that you MIGHT lose because of Garmins greed) back - for free.

I always had the cheap smart watches and i am amazed by the garmin hardware and the thought they put into it. I hope that will always stay.

  • But they have already taken away something that was always free. When they updated the Connect app they made Connect web mirror it and that took away the ability to customize your dashboard. With Connect+ they have given users that feature back but behind the paywall. What is keeping them from removing other free metrics and putting them behind the paywall - nothing. The more robust metrics will be the first to go, anything new will be behind the paywall, I am surprised that they released the jet lag feature and didn't save it for Connect+.

  • There are open source alternatives today, and you can download your workout data from garmin, but the problem is that the workout data from garmin cannot bee read precisly by open source software.....yet.

I hope it will be better in the future.

  • Exactly, this has to be an long plan of garmin, they remove something and wait a bit, then rerelease behind paywall.
