I've been hitting my steps goal every single day since the 18th of August 2016. I check it every night, and most of the times I also check that the steps have synched to Connect. On the 26th of February I noticed that Connect had interrupted my longest streak, even though I had always hit my goal as usual. It showed that the longest streak was 3113 days up until the 24th, while the "current" one was just 115 days. So February 25th was included in the "current" streak but not in the longest one, and this alone should point to a software issue. Furthermore, the steps on February 25th were recorded correctly, and Connect shows I've hit my goal. Why interrupt my streak then?
The "current" streak starts on November 4th, because for some reason my step goal on November 3rd has gone way up, retroactively. Just for that day. The longest streak does include November 3rd, and rightfully so.
I noticed that on February 25th there was an app update, so I'm sure this glitch is because of the update.
I've contacted Garmin Netherlands but they won't fix this. I'm posting here because I hope someone higher up will read it and reach out to me. We are talking about a streak of MORE THAN EIGHT YEARS, interrupted because of a mistake of Garmin.
I've found another user who had the same weird problem a few years ago: forums.garmin.com/.../wrong-step-streak-after-an-outage but the thread is closed without any reaction from Garmin.
