Developing an Android App to Communicate with Garmin Vivosmart 5

Hi everyone,

I’m a beginner in Garmin development and would like to create an Android app that communicates with my Garmin Vivosmart 5 to fetch data such as heart rate, steps, and sleep metrics.

My goal is to retrieve this data in real-time or near real-time.

Any advice, resources, or code examples would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your help!

  • Have a look at https://developer.garmin.com/

The most straightforward would be using the Health SDK, if you get access to it. If not, you'd have to write a Connect IQ app communicating with an Android companion app. There are some samples available in the CIQ SDK. You can also have a look at the CIQ store - there already may be similar apps available.
