Battery drain 5.9.1 with high Wake locks

The app is eating up my battery. It's been doing this the last 3 days.

What is it doing?

I've force quit the app and restarted my phone. Will see in a few hours if it stops.

I'm running the Android app ver 5.9.1

My device is a Fenix 8 running 13.28 beta

  • I'm facing the same issue during past few days, same app version and I have a epix pro.

  • That screenshot doesn't say how much battery it is using. It should be running in the background. Screen time is short. It looks ok.

What is the percentage of total battery usage? How is it compared to apps that use a lot of screen time like social apps if you use any?

  • Yes it does. It should not be waking up the phone that many times. It was active for 7:29 hrs.

    The battery consumption was 13.5%

In comparison I had a WhatsApp video call that was 1hr 8min and used 7.3%

I also compared to another user that had the same exact phone, app and watch. The other user had zero wake lock hrs and cpu time and the batter % was so low we had to open the app for a while for it to register so that we can get those stats.

  • Why would there be any wake locks at all? Could it be something on your watch the requests some service from Garmin Connect and during that request a wake lock is set? Have you installed anything from Connect IQ? Use a stock watch face and uninstall all extra apps and widgets and see if that helps.

  • I was thinking it was the watch too but the battery life on that has been great.

No apps installed. Stock watch face

  • Restart the watch just in case.

  • I had the same issue. I changed location access to "while using the app" (instead of "all the time"), changed background running to "optimized" instead of "unrestricted," and then I got a security patch update (for the S24 Ultra). One of these things fixed the issue. Now I have changed the location access back to "all the time" and background running to "unrestricted" for a few hours, and it is still only using 0.1%.

There is one other strange thing as well. After my phone software update, I can see a notification from the Explore app that there is a software update for the watch, but when I go into the Explore app and search for a software update, it says the software is up to date. However the notification is still there!

  • I landed here for the very same reason. It started the day I switched from my Fenix 7 to 8! In the last 3 days, GCM went from 0.6% - 1.5% battery usage per day (average for months now) to... 25% per day ! I see it's the wakelock hours that makes the difference. I put back my Fenix 7 and powered off the 8 for 1 day, and now it's back to 1%. There must be something with the Fenix 8! Perhaps the audio capabilities? Or?
