No lap announcement in custom workout

I used a custom workout today for the first time. I noticed that it never announced the default 1 mile lap and average lap time. I did NOT turn this setting off. Is this normal? Do I need to add ANOTHER alert?

The watch is a recent model (and so post 2015). Accd to the article, the auto lap should continue to be enabled with a custom workout is downloaded.

Which model exactly? You best ask the question on the forum for the specific model - other users of the same watch can tell you best, whether they have the same problem too, or not.
