Trying to set up Garmin Pay, the app says "not connected"

I have a VivoActive5 (and in Australia, if that matters).

The app says I'm connected to the watch, and I am able to change settings, install faces etc, and see steps etc updating in the app, so it seems to be working fine, but when I go to set up Garmin Pay and hit "Add Card" I get a "Not connected" message that says I need to enable bluetooth on my smartphone and the Vivoactive5 and then they should automatically connect.

Checking the watches bluetooth connection, I can see it is showing 'connected'

Checking the phone bluetooth connections, I can see Vivioactive5 is there and connected. I have removed the Bluetooth connection and re-added which didn't help. Neither did restarting the phone or the watch.

Any other troubleshooting tips?

  • Same here, in Finland. Tried to set up Fenix 7 pro two times and still it shows "Disconnected" when I try to add cards. I will try more, and if I find anything I will write solution. Could you please write something too, if found any way to set it up?

  • What helped to me is to clean cache of the app on Android. Hold your finder over the app icon, select App information menu (I hope in English it has this name as my phone is in Finnish), then menu about memory usage and cache, and clean all cache there. It forces the app to forget about everything. You then need to relogin and grant all permissions again, then it allowed me to move with adding cards
