Active Calories Burned

Hi,

I've recently noticed that I burn more active calories when I do not record a hiking / walking activity vs when I do record one. Does anyone know what could be causing the large variance? My only thought was that I have my max heart rate set too high in the app. Here is an example:

Activity: 10km hike, 12.7k steps, 76 avg. heart bpm = 118 active calories
Non-Activity: 8 km, 10k steps = 225 active calories

Thanks!

  • Steps and kms are irrelevant (as soon as you have a device with a working HR sensor). You'd have to compare the duration of the activities, and then the HR during those periods. The higher the HR is above the 7 days avg Resting HR, and the closer to the Max HR, the higher the metabolic rate, hence the more active Calories you burn.
