New user, not sure what to do next to import data from other apps and start tracking things

I just bought a Vivoactive 5 a couple of days ago. It was somewhat on a whim as I unexpectedly found it on a very deep discount -- I originally planned to buy a Google Pixel or OnePlus watch. So I didn't do a lot of research on what all I can do with this watch and the Garmin system beforehand.

I have an old Fitbit that I haven't used for tracking activity for a few years because it stopped syncing with my phone, but since I had the app anyway I have continued using it to track other stuff. I've also been casually using the Lose It app to track weight and meals, though not very consistently.

I'm confused on how to bring all this old data together in a way that I can start syncing with the Garmin universe. The things I most want to keep track of are steps/activities, heart rate, sleep, meals, weight, and women's health stuff. Is it even possible?

My phone is an Android, just to be clear.

  • Install the Garmin Connect app on your phone, read the manual, and watch some YouTube tutorials - that should give you enough information to start. If you still have some questions after doing that, do not hesitate to ask, but be more specific what exactly you are looking for, because it is impossible to cover all possible issues in a single post.

  • I guess I was hoping for some suggestions on good apps to use to bring in this specific data. Obviously I have installed the Connect and IQ apps but there is quite an array of available apps and I have already discovered that Garmin doesn't work with Google Fit.

Most of it can be tracked directly with the Garmin Connect app (or also with Garmin Connect Web). For meals you can link your Garmin Connect account to a free MyFitnessPal account, and then you can track the consumed Calories with Garmin Connect as well.

Please do not confuse it with the Garmin Connect IQ app (unfortunate choices of the app name by Garmin - many people mistake those two apps one for the other). Unlike Garmin Connect, the Garmin Connect IQ app was not designed for tracking your data. It serves excusive for the installation of 3rd party app for the watch. For tracking the data you are asking, you do not need any IQ app.
