Issue with wrong highest HR displayed/reported

Hello I have seen this few times and I am not sure why it's happening. I am using Fenix 7X pro SS and was wearing HRM+ and not the watch during that basketball session. Highest HR is reported in connect at 192 but on the graph it doesn't reach that figure.

I checked the HR on the activity itself and there is no 192 HR so probably a bug but an annoying one...

  • The graph shows 2 minutes averages, so any shorter spikes are smoothed out

  • If that was the case on the activity itself it would report the max HR especially wearing the accurate HRM pro plus otherwise what's the point? Anyway I double checked and it doesn't.

Only if the highest HR value really happened during the activity, which we do not know for sure. It might have been recorded out of the activity, perhaps even due to some sensor glitch. You could perhaps find some clues if you analyzed the FIT files of the all-day HR metrics, and also the FIT file of the activity, but it requires certain experience with such tasks.

Also please note, that the values High HR and Max HR are two different values, not recorded in the same way. See the explanation in the following article: support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=FMKY5NYJJ71DbuPmFP4O7A (sorry, the forum does not always accept hyperlinks in the last days)

  • During an activity Garmin give this definition for Max Heart Rate: (from this link support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=f00u6sutGX42yvLSxPaw39 )

    Activity Maximum Heart Rate

The maximum heart rate value is recorded on per-second data during a timed activity. It is more precise than the two-minute averages recorded as part of daily wellness data tracking.

Clearly there is a bug in connect since the 2 minutes average can't exceed the highest recorded per second during the activity... I even have more extreme examples where I just walk and 220 somethins is displayed as highest HR for the day whereas my Garmin maximum heart rate is 180 and I would feel such a discrepancy :D

  • The 2 min averages apply to the graph. The High HR is logged in real-time, so the recording interval is irrelevant to it. The high HR may come from the time during the activity, but it may also come from the time when you did not log any activity at all. Whether the value is real or a glitch of the sensor, that's a different question, but nobody here can answer that.
