Android 15 - Pairing lost every single time the app is in the background

Since the upgrade to android 15 I have to pair the Fenix 6 pro every single time I open the app after it was in background. No background sync is working. The app tells me I have to give it permission to stay connected in the background, but it got all permissions there are. Uninstall and reinstall did not help.

  • You should ask this in a forum related to the phone IMHO. I had similar problem with one app (not Garmin) and it turned out that there were some strange settings specific to OnePlus phones

  • There are no issues with 4 other BT devices I use. It's just the Garmin App that complains about permissions and loses the pairing. And in the end I just hope to find other users with that issues as my hope for Garmin to answer is nearly zero :-) I never ever saw them react to any issues or requests here or on the play store.

The user forum is not the right place to get help directly from Garmin, it is more or less just a user forum for the peer to peer help. If you want to hear from Garmin, I recommend reaching out to the Product Support through their website at https://support.garmin.com.

However, as wrote, the problems usually come from the phone. Your phone working fine with other BT devices does not mean it works flawlessly also with BTLE devices like Garmin's watches.

On some phones an update of the OS may help, and you can also try resetting the network in Android settings. However, each Android brand has its own specific settings, and there is no universal fix available. Some brands are especially well known for causing problems - for example Pixel, Samsung's Galaxy S2* models, ... Some tips are available also in the Sync / Connection Troubleshooting Guide.  And you can search the forum for your specific phone model, and see whether other owners of the same model reported the same problems, and whether they found a solution.

  • I got the same issue after updating OS to android 15. Nothing helps.

  • Same story here.

    Watch: Ednuro 3

    Phone Nothing phone 2

    OS: Andorid 15

  • After updating to Android 15 Nothing Phone 2 , I have the same issue.
Garmin Fenix 6 watch lost connection and waiting waiting for phone endless time.

When connected Garmin Fenix 6 watch to other phones with older Android versions (11-14), this issue does not occur, and everything works correctly.

For example, my Garmin Edge 830 bike computer syncs without any problems with Android 15 and the Nothing Phone 2.
So, the issue is specifically with the watch firmware and Android 15 or Nothing Phone 2 (

  • Try removing the watch from Garmin Connect and from the list of BT devices in Android settings, and then reset Android network settings, typically under Settings » General management » Reset » Reset network settingsPlease note you'll loose all network settings for wi-fi and Bluetooth a will have to re-do them. Once done, add the watch back to Garmin Connect.

  • I got a new update from Nothing and now all works good. So, check an OS update.

  • Thank you for the advice; of course, I’ve tried this several times. I removed the watch from the list of devices on the phone, not just in the app. I also tried resetting the network settings on Android multiple times.

Unfortunately, this didn’t help. The only thing I haven’t tried yet is performing a factory reset on the Nothing Phone 2, but something tells me that it won’t solve the issue either. :(

  • Wow, cool! Thank you! Really! Fixed compatibility with certain smartwatches in the update log.

    It'Works!!!!
