Garmin edge 530 activities not showing up in android connect app

The device shows up as connected in the android app, and when I sync from either the app or the 530, the sync process completes with a 'successful' indication, yet the activity doesn't show up.

- the activities are showing in the history on the 530.

- the activities upload to the PC Connect app via USB.

- I also have a Forerunner 745. Those activities sync and display immediately in the android app after the app notes a successful sync.

- I have deleted and re-added the 530 to the phone Connect app

- I have deleted and readded the phone to the 530.

I really don't want to have to delete the app from the phone at the risk of losing all the stored activity, HRV, and sleep data.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  • The Express app for pc/mac doesn't show activities. You need to go to the pc/mac Connect app  for that. The devices shows up and syncs in Express, and as noted the activities appear in the pc Connect app. It's just the phone where they don't show up. As

If the activities are in Garmin Connect web, and are not in Garmin Connect phone app, then you are not logged into the same account. GC app and GC web are just two different interfaces to the same data available in your account on Garmin's server.

On the app, remove the device from Garmin Connect, sign out, sign back in with the same credentials as you use for GC web, and add the device there (if not already there).

BTW, removing the app has no impact on the data. The data is stored on Garmin's server, not on your phone.

  • Thanks for the two responses Trux. I appreciate it. I have only one Garmin account. For that matter my forrerunner 745 uploads to the phone and shows those activities. I did already try deleting the 530 from the phone app and readding it, that didn't work. However, I wasn't aware that all the historical data was stored on the server rather than the phone, I thought it was stored locally and pushed to the web. I'll try deleting and reloading the phone app.

  • If you tell that the activities from the Edge 530 are visible in Garmin Connect Web, and not on the app, then the two interfaces do not seem to be using the same account. You can verify it in the following way:

    • In GC Web, open your User Profile and not the last part of the URL in the address bar of the browser, just after the https://connect.garmin.com/modern/profile/
    • In the phone app, got to ... More » Settings » App Diagnostics (at the very bottom), and carefully doublecheck whether the value in the field Displayname is absolutely identical to the one in GC Web.
  • I've seen multiple cases where the web and phone app show different things. Sometimes they become synced after a while, sometimes not. It looks like some of the apis they use are different.

However from all the things the OP wrote in this thread I less and less understand what's going on...

  • It looks like some of the apis they use are different.

The only thing that differs is the live data like the immediate values of Steps, Floors, HR, Body Battery, and Calories on the main screen - the app shows the live data coming directly from the watch (without continuously syncing it to GC ), but when you enter the detailed screen of the respective feature, you get the data that was already synced to the cloud.

I never saw any other difference, with the exception of some minor caching problems, when you for example edit an activity on one side, then it may not transfer immediately, and a reload may be needed. However, if some activities are missing entirely on one side only, then on my mind there is definitely a problem with an account mismatch.

  • First let me state it's good to be able to have a discussion with someone who knows what the [language] they're talking about.

I dug into the phone app, and sure enough there was information that didn't match my current account settings. One difference however: I don't have a "App Diagnostics" in the settings page (or anywhere else, actually). Mine shows a "device sync audit" selection. Assuming this would be information about what data was synchronized and what the results were, I looked and there was the user name I had used to set up a garmin account a few years ago but had since deleted.

I tried logging into the PC app using the account info and sure enough, it's says "account not found".

This begs the questions how is it my Forerunner 745 syncs activities fine to the phone and to the web app but my edge 530 doesn't sync activities though will show a successful sync? and how was it possible for my 745 to upload to the web account though the phone app which had a different account?

Those are rhetorical really, I'm not really interested in digging any deeper since I logged into the phone app with my PC credentials, loaded both devices into that account, and they synced all the activities stored on both devices.

So, thank you trux, you solved my problem!

  • that should say " I'm not really interested in digging any deeper since I logged into the phone app with my PC credentials, loaded both devices into that account, and they synced all the activities stored on both devices."
