Runkeeper?

I use Runkeeper on my Google Pixel 8 Pro and I have the app connected to my Garmin Connect app. Today I used Runkeeper for the first time since getting my Garmin Instinct 2 watch, but how do I know that the apps are actually communicating? I walked 3.5 kms and the acitivity is in the Runkeeper app, but even though Garmin says I've been out walking, when I click activities I apparently haven't done any.

How do I know that they sync or work together?

  • Not sure I understand. And I do not know what you use Runkeeper for, but if you recorded the walk with the Instinct 2 watch, is the activity on the watch? If so, sync it with Garmin Connect. If it fails, try syncing it over the USB cable to a computer with Garmin Express. If it does not help, try importing the corresponding FIT file manually. If you get an error, post the zipped file here, and a friendly fellow user may try to fix the broken file.

  • They're supposed to sync both ways. That is, an activity done with Runkeeper should sync with Garmin and vice versa. I decided to try this way first. Next time I'll try running and starting the run with my watch.

  • They're supposed to sync both ways.

Where did you see that? I am not familiar with Runkeeper, but on their website I found only a note about syncing from Garmin to Runkeeper:

You can establish a connection between Garmin and Runkeeper online and in the phone app. Once you've connected your Garmin Connect account with Runkeeper, future activity syncing will be automatic. The next time you track an activity after connecting, the last 30 days of activity history will be automatically imported into Runkeeper.

Anyway, it is in your best interest to log all activities on the watch. Only in that way you will get the correct metrics, stats, and recommendations from it.

  • In my Garmin Connect app, under settings and connected apps and ASICS Runkeeper, there are two on/off settings. One for sharing data from Garmin to the Runkeeper app and one for sharing data from the Runkeeper app to Garmin. Both are turned on.

(I don't know if its settings/connected apps in English, my app is in Swedish.)

  • As I wrote, I am not familiar with Runkeeper, so do not know how it works, but for example the link with Strava syncs data in both ways too, though the activities go only from Garmin to Strava, while Strava only sends Courses and Segments to Garmin Connect, no activities. You best ask directly the Support of Runkeeper, or hope that another Runkeeper user peeks in here.

However, as I wrote, regardless whether the link works in both directions or not, I highly recommend logging all your activities with the watch. Only in that way it can be really useful.

  • OK, thanks for your input. I might do that. :)

  • The second is for trainings only. I don't use run keeper, even though I installed it once and still have it connected, but I can second what truck wrote: I don't see any reason why would you record a run or walk via the phone when you have the watch on your arm.

My guess is that you can create training workouts in run keeper and those would be synced automatically to your Garmin account.

I'm pretty sure Garmin doesn't let any non Garmin device to record some activity and then import it to your Garmin account. Maybe you can occasionally do it by editing a fit file on fitfiletools.com or some similar website or program, but not automatically syncing út IMHO

Well, there are a few of them, like Zwift, Concept 2, Rouvy, TrainerRoad, ..., but they had to go through a certification process and make their apps conform to the conditions of Garmin.

  • They did sync, eventually without me doing anything particular. Map and stats all got imported to Runkeeper.

However, I did have erratic GPS for the first 100 metres and I would like to edit it, somehow, but I can't?

Is that not possible in the Garmin app?
