Cant complete ECG app setup

Trying to do ECG app setup on new Fenix 8, I select "set up ECG app", then "get started" on the connect app, then it gets stuck on "searching for gps location" for about 30 seconds, then it says "an error has occured" then it takes me back to the screen that says"get started". Fenix 8 is on 11.60 and the app is on 5.5(newest versions). Location is set to on and the app has location permissions enabled. Already tried reinstalling the app, and restarting the fenix and phone. I am in the US so its not an issue with ECG not being approved. I have storage and processing and device upload permitted under my profile privacy settings. Anyone have any ideas on how to get this working?

  • then it gets stuck on "searching for gps location" for about 30 seconds, then it says "an error has occured"

Are you doing it under open sky (while still having the phone with Internet connection nearby)? GPS does not work indoors, and the location is needed to verify whether ECG is available in your region. The option is not (yet) approved by the governmental authorities in many lands, so the location check must be done before activating the option.

  • open the maps app on your phone then find your current location. if you are in a cleared region you should be good from there.

  • Thats not the issue, i can open multiple other apps that use gps and it pulls my location right away

  • figured out the issue. I had location services on(gps) but I had bluetooth scanning and wifi scanning disabled. So it could pull GPS, but some apps also check nearby bluetooth and wifi networks to get a more accurate reading. Evidently this is mandatory for the location check in the connect app.
