Venu SQ 2 asking for weather permission even after "no, don't ask again"

My Garmin watch keeps asking for permission to access weather, even after I select "no" and check the "don't ask again" option.  It has done this since new six months ago, and I have updated the watch version several times.  Android Pixel 7 phone, Garmin Connect version 5.4.  Watch is Venu SQ 2, version 2.66.  Why does the software ignore my "don't ask again", is there a workaround?  ...I am trying to never use Fitbit again, but this Garmin issue is very discouraging.

  • is there a workaround?

Thank you trux, I am trying your suggestions...I appreciate your input & I am doing my best...

    • The assumption that repeated permission requests happen upon app update does not appear correct...unless the app is updating between 1 and 4 times daily.  I am almost always prompted first thing in the morning, then usually 1-3 times during the day.
    • I don't want to grant the permission. I want to NOT grant the permission.  If I thought I could grant it, then turn it off, that'd be fine, but I don't know that I can turn it off again.  Read next bullet for more info..."weather" does not appear in the permissions list...
    • Following your suggested link, led to one potentially helpful method to try on my Android phone:
Settings -> Apps -> All Apps -> (the name of the app) -> Permissons
...and then turn off the permission
...however "weather" is not in the permissions list for Garmin Connect.
    • That method on the phone to control Permissions is still very useful & good to know about!  It shows Garmin Connect has just about the correct yes/no settings that I want.

I found one potential action, possibly this will work:

    • On the watch, bring up the main "home" or "clock" screen, scroll down into the "Glances" apps - keep scrolling to bottom
    • Touch "Weather" when it appears; this highlights (or activates) the Weather control.
    • Touch red "-" symbol on the left - this takes Weather out of the "Glances" menu on the watch.

Possibly this will solve the issue.

I will continue to look at the phone & watch settings, and perhaps find something I'm overlooking on the phone, or in your suggestions.  Thanks again.

  • Weather needs the Location permissions. And Mobile Data & WiFi, but that is a generally needed permission, so I guess you have it enabled.

Without granting the Location permissions, you will not only lose the Weather information, but also a number of other features - for example the heat and altitude acclimation, nightly altimeter calibration, Live Track, Assistance & Incident Detection, etc. More details at: Why Does the Garmin Connect App Need Location Data From My Phone? | Garmin Customer Support
