Live Tracking finding/adding connections

Hi all,

I'm trying to connect my gf for live tracking of my rides in Garmin Connect. She is already listed as a connection in GC.

However, when I'm trying to set up LiveTrack, it asks me to list a recipient for email notification. When I click on "add recipients" I get a very limited and random collection of my contacts, like my HR person at work, my older brother, and my mother. None of these people are on Garmin Connect. My gf is not on the list, and I don't see any way to add her.

Like I said she already is listed as a connection in GC. Anyone else have this issue and know how to fix it? TIA

  • From the start page click More > Safety & Tracking > LiveTrack > 3 dots in the upper corner > Settings > Recipients > Add recipients.

Scroll down to the contact you want to add. You will se both contacts in Garmin Connect and in your phone (if you allowed contacts permission)

  • Thanks for replying.  I've done all this.  The problem is when I select Settings, there is no "Recipients" unless I click "Email."  When I do this "Recipients" pops up.  When I select this I get to "Add Recipients" which I select.

This is where the problem arises.  I see a list of "Contacts in Garmin Connect" that only includes 8 people, such as my ex-wife, my HR manager, etc.  None of these people are connected to me by Garmin in any way.  There are no other contacts, and no way to add them.

  • None of these people are connected to me by Garmin in any way.

For Live Track you do not need anyone connected to you by Garmin in any way. You just need contacts with an email address, so check whether those persons that you want to add, and are in your phone book, do have an email address associated there.

  • You just need contacts with an email address

The recipient don't even need an e-mail address. You can start a Livetrack session and send the link via SMS or a messenger to a phone number.

Note: the "share" icon looks different on Android than on my iPhone.

That's how we always do it. The main advantage is that it works without delay. The invitation to a livetrack session by e-mail sometimes took hours or even DAYS to arrive.

  • Yes, you have to enable Email. If you scroll down in the list of recipients you should see all your phone contacts unless you denied that app permission. Then you will see an info text about that. Enable contacts permission for the app and you will see all contacts.
